Each braid or lock extends in a deliberate direction, creating geometry that frames the face and transforms hair into a cartographic or celestial map. It evokes African traditions where hair is more than adornment. It becomes a marker of lineage, and social position, as well as  a spiritual conduit.

Tavares Strachan: The Day Tomorrow Began, is the artist’s first museum exhibition in Los Angeles. Strachan is interested in what has been rendered invisible within mainstream narratives, particularly related to the Black diaspora.
